Local Youth Attend Penn State Conservation SchoolThrough the efforts of the St. Marys Sportsmen’s Club in cooperation with various local individuals and service clubs and industry, five local youths attended Penn State Conservation Leadership School, located in the Stone Valley Recreation area, just south of State College. The school added a wealth of valuable information and experiences to the life of the students who attended. Some of the things they learned are conserving and maintaining the forests, wildlife and water resources that we all enjoy. As a result of their studies, the students bring back valuable information to our community. Conservation, leadership and cooperative problem solving are the three basic areas that are part of the curriculum. The CLS provides as much diversity of educational styles and experiences as possible. Since 1948, the CLS and its predecessor, the Junior Conservation Camp, have taught thousands of students the fundamentals of environmental consciousness. The St. Marys Sportsmen’s Club has sponsored hundreds of students to Conservation Leadership School over the past years 63 years. If you are a student that has completed ninth grade earth science class and are interested for future consideration to attend CLS, contact any director of the Sportsmen’s Club. Those attending this year are pictured above: Jamie VanAlstine, Madelyn O’Leary, Andy Gebauer, Troy Caskey and Jess Franco. |
