Through the efforts of the
St. Marys Sportsmen's Club, in co-operation with the St. Marys Rotary
Club, St. Marys Lions Club, N.W.T.F. Wapiti Roost Chapter, Elk County
Conservation District, and Weyerhaeuser Company-Johnsonburg Mill, six
local youths were privileged to attend the Penn State Conservation
Leadership School, located in the Stone Valley Recreation area, just south
of State College.
The core
curriculum topics for 2006 were Fisheries Conservation, Our Forest
Heritage, Acid Mine Drainage, and Leadership 101. The classroom includes
over 700 acres of forest. fields, wetlands, and streams... where learning
about the environment goes hand-in-hand with having fun, meeting new
friends, and learning leadership skills.
